58.00

Date: Saturday 28th July 2018
Time: 10am - 1pm

Interior designer, interior architect, stylist, interior decorator, property stylist, colour consultant, what do they all mean? This session is for those looking to break into the design industry, or for those already in the industry wanting to change direction. There are many pathways into the industry, it depends on what you want to do. In this session each of these titles is explored in detail of what these positions entail, how they are different and what level of accreditation is required.

We explore ways to present your design folio and approaches for gaining work in the interior design industry. What are the the ways to get noticed, and also what can really damage your chances of getting a response at all. Note that this isn’t a folio preparation workshop for individuals, rather a more broad information session.
Lauren Li, the founder of Sisällä, has been in the design industry for over ten years and has worked in many different capacities as a designer. She shares her experience as an interior designer across a range of various practices, and realising that the world of interior is not all what it seems! Lauren has worked at leading Melbourne architectural practices, and as a retail designer opening flagship stores such as Gap. In London she worked as an interior designer on eye-popping high-end interiors. Lauren has an in-depth knowledge of the interior design education options, having gained a diploma at RMIT and a Bachelor of Interior Design with Honours at Swinburne. She has taught the diploma and short-courses which gives her a unique insight to match the qualification to the profession.

This is a short and sweet session that is loaded with information about the interior design industry and the education options to get you there. The session is presented by addressing each interior design related profession, in a group discussion around the table.
