SketchUp Intermediate - 26th October

SketchUp Intermediate - 26th October

SketchUp Intermediate | Create your own custom designs

SketchUp is an extremely useful tool to communicate your interior design to your client. The trap lies when we only rely on the handful of default materials and generic furniture. The design can result a boring generic ‘sketchup’ looking design full of furniture that only exists in the 3D Warehouse but not in real life.

To get the best results out of this software, you need to create your own custom cabinetry, furniture and lighting.

In this intermediate sketchup session, we focus on custom everything.

We don’t get bogged down in technical ‘sketchup’ talk, we focus on the techniques that get you up and running.

What’s included:

  • You will build a kitchen with real materials that you would specify for your projects.

  • We create custom door hardware, lighting and steel shelving.

  • Learn where to find materials and furniture outside of the 3D warehouse.

  • Use the camera to create 3D views of your kitchen by using layers to hide walls – note that these aren’t rendered views, this is purely a sketchup session.

  • Export the sketchup 3D views to jpeg files.

  • Create a walk-through animation of your kitchen design.

  • Take 2D sections/ elevations though the kitchen to communicate the design to a cabinetmaker – note that we use the free sketchup version which does not allow for scaled drawings.

  • Learn efficient work flows

  • You receive a file full of select components from the 3D warehouse and some unique items that I have created, with an example of a complete kitchen that you can use as a template.

  • A delicious lunch (please advise of dietary requirements), wine (let’s get creative!) and complementary all-day tea and refreshments from our apartment kitchen.

This session is perfect for:

  • Interior designers that have a basic knowledge of sketchup but want to take it to the next level.

  • Those that have already attended our ‘sketchup for beginners’ session (although not a requirement).

  • Busy designers that want hands-on tutorials rather than online learning with a small group of other like-minded designers.

  • You should already know how to navigate in the 3D interface, how to group, scale, rotate, copy and move. You’ll already be able to build rooms, insert windows and doors and use the 3D Warehouse.
